Installation
Instructions for Throttle Body Adapter
Kit
A note
on 84-85 SVO's with the inline intake.
The
adapter plates were modeled for use with the box style intake. It will
be necessary to modify the throttle linkage spacer so it will fit
correctly. I do not have images of the modification at this time, but
it's self evident when you attempt to bolt the spacer up. You will need
to cut off approximately .5 of an inch of material from the last
linkage hole to the end of the spacer on a 45 degree angle.
Remove
breather at back of
valve cover. (not required on 84 and 85 models) Remove
Stock throttle body.
Remove any studs that remain in the upper manifold as these are
replaced with
supplied bolts. It is necessary to port match the opening in the upper
manifold. It is highly recommended you remove the upper intake to avoid
having metal shaving fall into the combustion chamber. It will be allot
easier to install the throttle body with the upper intake removed
anyway. Use the
supplied
spacer plate as a template and Dremmel
out the excess material.

body comparison image.
After
you have port matched
the intake, mount the throttle cable spacer using the supplied 30mm Hex
Bolt.
Reuse the 2 original bolts to attach the linkage bracket to the spacer.
Install
supplied base plate and bolts to
upper manifold with existing
stock gasket (trim to match new opening).
Spread
silicone to face of base plate and attach
outer adapter base
plate with supplied allen button head bolts into recessed holes. Insert
TPS Pigtail into sensor before you install the throttle body.
It’s a
tight squeeze due
to the EGR mounting location. Using supplied 1 inch Hex bolts, attach
the new
throttle body to the plate using supplied gasket. These bolts are
stainless
steel so anti-seize is recommended. Attach throttle cable onto ball end
fitting.
When
using kit without supplied throttle body, grind outside diameter of
ball
fitting small enough to allow cable to slip over. Modify stock breather
or use
open element kit to allow clearance for IAC assembly. Reattach
intercooler with
supplied hose and trim overall length if necessary.
Remember to
set your base idle. In
some cases your car will
start right up and be where it’s supposed to be. Other will
need to set
the
base idle. Unplug the IAC. Locate the white protection grommet on the
under
side of the TB. Insert a 7/64 allen key. While facing the throttle
body, turn
counter clockwise. Try one full turn at a time between testing. (This
will be
about three or four ¼ turns with the space available.) To
test,
start the car
with the IAC unplugged – if it stays running and idles at 500
turn off
the car
and plug in the IAC. Start the car and check the idle. It will run high
for the
first few seconds. Rev the gas a bit to encourage step down and see if
the idle
has dropped into place. If the car is not at running temperature it
will take a
few minutes to idle down. Repeat this step until you hit the desired
idle.
